General Motors, the parent company of Chevy, is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) offerings by introducing a new line of all-electric business vans. General Motors introduced its new brand, BrightDrop, under the Chevrolet umbrella. As rival Ford announces plans to launch a brand-new “digitally superior” electric van as part of its revamped electrification strategy, Volkswagen takes the stage with its own transfer, poised to shake up the market.

General Motors’ BrightDrop brand is partnering with Chevrolet to market its electric vans.

General Motors is redirecting its BrightDrop electric vans to Chevrolet’s commercial sales network in an effort to boost sales and gain a competitive edge over rivals like Ford, Rivian, and others in the growing electric van market?

General Motors’ BrightDrop brand was established in January 2021 to focus exclusively on electric vehicles for commercial use. In 2023, the corporation was fully integrated into GM’s Envolve fleet enterprise. Now, an electric vehicle will probably be offered underneath Chevy.

The company boasts a fleet of two electric vans, the 400 and 600 series, which have already gained traction among major transportation providers such as FedEx, Ryder, and DHL.

Notwithstanding General Motors’ (GM) conviction that electric vehicles (EVs) will boost sales under the Chevrolet brand. GM’s assertion on Thursday learn:

The Chevrolet eVans, specifically the 400 and 600 models, will henceforth be commonly referred to by their new moniker. Chevrolet’s Vice President, Scott Bell, stated that by integrating BrightDrop into its offerings, “the brand is merging superior electric vehicle know-how with the reliability and broad reach that only Chevrolet can deliver.”

General Motors will still manufacture the business-oriented electric vans at its CAMI assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario.

Electrek’s Take

Ford’s latest announcement follows the company’s reveal of its innovative digital business van set to hit the market in 2026. With a strong foothold in the American market, Ford boasts the top-selling van in the US with its dependable Transit and innovative E-Transit offerings.

Among U.S. full-size business vans, Ford’s Transit and E-Transit models together comprised half of the market share during the second quarter.

Ford delivered 6,301 E-Transit vans in the first half of the year, a staggering 116% increase over 2022 figures. Compared to other automakers, General Motors has delivered 746 BrightDrop electric vans through June 2024.

At the close of Q2, the Ford Professional Intelligence software platform boasted approximately 600,000 subscribers, a significant 33 percent increase from the previous year.

General Motors is banking on repositioning its electric vans under the Chevrolet brand to shake up the market, targeting rivals such as Ford and Rivian, which has secured a major deal with Amazon.
