On August 28, the Jiyue 07 officially launched its pre-sale period, touting itself as the most powerful and intelligent automobile in the world. Priced at a starting point of 215,900 yuan ($30,450), the vehicle is expected to make its official debut on September 10. Jiyue is a cutting-edge AI-powered vehicle concept developed jointly by Baidu, the leading Chinese technology giant, and Geely, a renowned automotive company. The Lynk & Co model, majority-owned by Geely at a 65% stake, currently offers a single product in its lineup: the popular 01 SUV. It’s surprising to see the truth that pre-sales for the ’07 model are just starting, given that new sedans began hitting dealerships in early July, effectively ending any backlog or shortage.

The Jiyue automaker takes great care to highlight its Chinese heritage through an authentically designed vehicle. The esteemed design has garnered accolades from both the prestigious Pink Dot and iF, its excellence widely recognized. With a substantial 3013mm wheelbase, the vehicle boasts a well-balanced design featuring short overhangs at both the front and rear, allowing for maximum interior space to accommodate passengers comfortably. The sleek LED ambient lighting, seamlessly integrating the two headlight clusters on the vehicle’s entrance, creates an avant-garde visual effect. The 07 features an almost entirely sealed entryway, with a distinctive trapezoidal vent situated at the rear of the fender.
Chinese electric vehicles often employ sleek designs by concealing door handles, but the Jiyue 07 deviates from this trend by placing door-opening and closing buttons on the B and C pillars instead. With its sleek fastback design, the vehicle boasts an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.198. The sleek and modern automotive features a cleverly designed ISD-inspired interactive piano key-style tail lights. As the vehicle accelerates to speeds of 95 km/h or higher, a retractable rear wing deploys through robotic means. The automotive’s substantial size is characterized by its imposing dimensions: 4,953mm in length, 1,989mm in width, and 1,475mm in height.

Within its spacious interior, the Jiyue 07 boasts a cutting-edge infotainment system, featuring a sleek yoke-style steering wheel and a massive 35.6-inch 6K display that immerses occupants in a world of high-definition entertainment. Can this system seamlessly accommodate various display configurations, including full-screen, dual-screen, and triple-screen setups, where all partitions are digital rather than physical? The display stretches symmetrically, bridging the midpoint of the driver’s side to the midpoint of the passenger’s side. The rear compartment also features a compact display situated behind the central console’s rear panel, designed for the comfort and convenience of the passenger seated in that area. The Jiyue has reportedly set its sights on a yoke-style steering wheel valued at 20 million yuan (approximately $2.8 million USD), boasting a superior grip that doesn’t obstruct the driver’s line of sight; as an alternative, it will also offer a standard steering wheel option.

Single-motor variations possess a 400-volt framework and a maximum power output of 200 kilowatts. The twin motor variants feature an additional 200 kW motor on the front axle, and will utilize a high-voltage 800V architecture. The e-vehicle features a 71.4 kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery, providing ample power for a certified 660km range on the Chinese Laboratory Test Cycle (CLTC). Here are increased specifications of various models that provide a 100 kWh ternary lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery, enabling a driving range of approximately 880 kilometres in one motor models and 770 kilometres in twin motor models. Currently, there is limited information available regarding charging instances. As a Geely-developed product, the vehicle leverages the scalable SEA platform.
The Jiyue 07 will feature Baidu’s advanced Apollo Self-Driving (ASD) technology, a cutting-edge intelligent driving system. Similar to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) and Xpeng’s upcoming Eagle Intelligent programs, this is a vision-only based autonomous driving system that relies solely on cameras and sensors, without the aid of lidar technology. The subscription requires a payment of $84 per thirty days, with the first three months free of charge; for a limited period, a one-time purchase option is available at a discounted rate of $7,000, reduced from the standard price of $42,000.
The 2.0 system leverages a cutting-edge, end-to-end concept model that enhances detection, monitoring, mapping, and scene comprehension abilities. Despite ambiguity surrounding Jiyue’s assertion that the ’07 is the world’s most intelligent automotive, it appears that the forthcoming ASD 2.0 will be capable of handling unrestricted autonomous driving on all types of roads. We’ll need to wait and assess the system’s effectiveness, as well as its scope, before we can truly gauge its success.
