The 2022 Bimota KB4 & KB4 RC: A Twin-Spired Masterpiece of Italian Engineering?

Two years have passed since Bimota unveiled conceptual renderings of its Kawasaki-powered retro-inspired sportbike project. At the recent 12-months’ EICMA event, these designs have finally been unveiled as 2022 production models. The brand-new KB4 mannequin will debut in two distinct variants: a fully faired Bimota KB4 and a stripped-down, cafe-racer inspired KB4 RC.

While Bimota’s partnership with Kawasaki may not be surprising, given the Japanese manufacturer’s 49% ownership stake in the company, it’s reassuring to know that their influence stops there. With its roots in Bimota’s proven strategy of leveraging efficient engines from mass-produced models, the KB4 motorcycle has been engineered to deliver exceptional performance through a carefully crafted build.

The engine of choice for Bimota in this instance is the Ninja 1000 SX’s 1043cc inline-four, which delivers a respectable 142 horsepower output. While Bimota distanced itself successfully from Kawasaki’s sports touring blueprint, its innovative approach yielded a KB4 boasting enhanced handling, reduced weight, and advanced specifications.

The KB4 weighs 145 kg (dry), a full 42 kg less than the Ninja’s weight of 187 kg. The exceptional performance is largely owed to the strategic incorporation of high-tech materials like billet aluminum and carbon fiber. The KB4 boasts a remarkably compact overall footprint, dwarfing that of its competitor, the Ninja. To maintain optimal proportions, Bimota repositioned the engine’s radiator and cooling fan, placing them at the rear of the KB4, thereby enhancing its handling capabilities. With its premium suspension from Öhlins, advanced braking system from Brembo, and grippy Pirelli Supercorsa tires, the KB4 is elevated to exceptional performance levels. Using the expertise of the KB4, riders also benefit from the latest advancements in Kawasaki’s digital technology, combined with sophisticated lean-sensitive and cornering capabilities.

Bimota asserts that the KB4 was conceived with a timeless essence. Crafted to honor its lineage, this bespoke design is elevated by meticulous attention to detail, including supple leather upholstery and exquisite hand-painted embellishments on the bodywork.

Two groundbreaking new fashion trends usher in a bold era for the Bimota brand, with no compromises made in their creation. According to Pierluigi Marconi, General Manager of Bimota, “No other manufacturer produces motorcycles like the KB4 and KB4RC.” It’s rare to find someone who excels at both enjoyment and performance, offering a unique combination in one.

The pricing for the Bimota KB4 and KB4 RC is anticipated to fall within a range of approximately $40,000 USD.
