Ford is issuing a recall affecting various models of its electric SUVs, including the Mustang Mach-E, compact pickup truck Maverick, and off-road-capable Bronco Sport, due to a faulty front windshield wiper motor. The recall affects certain 2023 Ford models: Mustang Mach-E, Bronco Sport, and those in the 2023-2024 model year ranges for Maverick.
Ford is recalling over 52,000 vehicles in North America due to potential safety issues. The affected models include the electric Mustang Mach-E, off-road-oriented Bronco, and subcompact Maverick.
On August 9, 2024, Ford announced a recall of more than 37,300 units of its Mach-E, Bronco Sport, and Maverick models to the Nationwide Freeway Visitors Security Administration.
Following reports of faulty windshield wiper failures on the Bronco Sport and Maverick models, Ford initiated a thorough investigation to identify the root cause of the issue. The corporation’s decision to allow water to enter the windshield wiper motor ultimately led to its failure.
Upon inspection, Ford found that the reason for the issue was a lack of sealant between the gear cover and kit housing, prompting a return of the defective component to its supplier.
Data from the manufacturing records reveals that the incident took place on both June 18, 2023, and September 1, 2023. Suspect wiper motor assemblies from June shipments are currently integrated into Maverick and Mach-E models, whereas those manufactured in September have been installed in Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles.
