Flaiva, a meticulously restored 1980s Honda CBX750, was commissioned by its long-term owner seeking to preserve the iconic motorcycle’s vintage charm while incorporating modern refinements. Protecting the bicycle’s striking design features was crucial. At the end of the day, it still had to resemble a Honda CBX, remarks Unik team member Tiago. With their deep understanding of similar projects, the Unik team tackled this endeavor without preconceived notions, allowing the natural flow of information to guide their design.
To enhance the CBX’s performance, Unik incorporates retrofit components from late-model sport bikes. By opting for sturdier inverted forks, they’ve incorporated the high-performance entrance features of a Kawasaki Ninja ZX9. The wheels feature 17-inch Honda CBR rims, paired with extensive 180mm rubber at the rear, achieved through careful offsetting of the chain to ensure a precise fit. With its ZX9 twin Tokico anchors at the front, a Brembo caliper at the rear, and HEL braided brake lines throughout, the motorcycle boasts improved stopping energy. Solving spherical issues in the market’s modern landscape, a cutting-edge mono-shock technology supports the rear with innovative precision.
The CBX’s sleek new proportions have undergone a meticulous makeover. Unik significantly reduced the rear subframe’s dimensions by a substantial 16 centimeters before reinstalling the bespoke bodywork. Installing the entrance fairing proved a challenging aspect of the project, particularly when the beefy ZX9 forks were incorporated into the design. With meticulous attention to detail, the fork covers now snugly encase the forks, their new position ensured by the installation of high-mounted handlebars that provide ample room for enthusiastic cornering. To enhance its versatility, Unique added customised fenders at both entrance and rear, as well as an angular, race-inspired belly pan, further accentuating its aggressive stance.
The CBX750’s antiquated electrical infrastructure has been overhauled with a cutting-edge Motogadget m.unit administrative system. Hooked tight to its analog gauges in the heart of the production line, this digital speedometer mimics the precision of a mechanical instrument. Enhanced discrete LED flip alerts supplant traditional bulky blinkers, while a sleekly redesigned inventory tail light boasts modernised internal components. With the CBX750 revamped, Unik has taken it a step further by customizing the bike with newly designed footrest brackets, while also relocating the battery field to a more strategic position beneath the engine.
To boost engine performance, Unik focused specifically on optimizing the Honda’s air intake and exhaust systems. To alleviate issues with the inventory airbox, a conical filter has been mounted on each carburetor. The new jetting optimizes fuel delivery, while the upgraded exhaust system, featuring a 4-1-2 slash-cut design in stainless steel, has replaced the previous weighty inventory configuration. The revamped Flávia now delivers an unparalleled driving experience, thanks to its enhanced brakes, refined suspension, and rich, resonant soundtrack – guaranteed to leave you breathless from start to finish.
To create an unmissable masterpiece, Unik reimagined this CBX750 with a meticulously accurate vintage-inspired makeover, meticulously replicating the iconic original design. With the vinyl removed, the emblems and pinstripes have been meticulously applied over a rich, timeless silver basecoat. This 1960s classic is elevated to exceptional by the resto-mod’s meticulous craftsmanship.
With its blend of bold 1980s influences and chic modern twists, the Flávia is poised to turn heads in Lisbon’s vibrant streets. Whether a motorcycle aficionado or simply appreciating the beauty of a meticulously designed machine, Unik Bikes is undoubtedly a workshop worth observing.
