Upcycle Storage designed and built two custom cafe racers, and this BMW-based build is one such exceptional example. Originally a 1982 BMW R100RS equipped with twin rear shocks, the bike has undergone significant transformations over time. With its body now powder-coated to perfection, the bike’s new look is further enhanced by the addition of a customized mono-shock swingarm, which provides a sleek aesthetic, while also boasting improved handling capabilities; the solo seat, meanwhile, adds a touch of sophistication and sportiness to the overall design.
The R90S model features a one-quarter fairing, replacing the factory-installed RS unit. The LED lights seamlessly integrated into the seat and handlebar ends, while the digital fuse panel, high-tech switches, and miniature display from Motogadget further enhance the overall riding experience.
With meticulous attention to detail, the iconic BMW roundels on the gasoline tank were discreetly removed prior to a stunning refinishing process that showcased a sleek two-tone design of silver metallic hues accented by precise black and white pinstripes. AirTech Streamlining supplies a customized fiberglass quarter fairing designed specifically for a solitary headlight. The solo seat’s upholstery features a rich, mild brown suede finish, subtly complemented by the discreet integration of LED indicators and brake lights, cleverly recessed beneath for a sleek appearance.
The motorcycle’s suspension system features a unique blend of components, including triple timber fork assemblies, inverted forks sourced from a 2002 Suzuki GSX-R1000, and high-performance braking capabilities courtesy of six-piston brake calipers, accompanied by a specialized R100 “snowflake” wheel and 320mm Kawasaki ZX-12R brake rotors. The scooter also features additional customization options, including clip-on handlebars equipped with Motone hand controls and LED bar-end flip indicators for enhanced functionality and visibility.
The induction system for the powerful 980cc opposed-twin engine features a dual-Bing carburetor setup, precision-crafted with velocity stacks to optimize airflow and performance. A custom-designed, low-profile 2-into-1 stainless steel exhaust system was crafted by Upcycle Storage, replacing the stock setup. In addition, a sleek cowl manufactured by BMW-Bayer replaced the factory’s high cowl and airbox configuration, fostering a streamlined appearance. The engine and transmission components are finished in a high-gloss black, with power distributed through a robust five-speed gearbox and enclosed driveshaft configuration.
