JackRabbit OG2 launch: The internet’s favorite ‘silly little e-bike’ gets big updates

The JackRabbit OG’s popularity led it to become the first electric micro-bike to gain widespread appeal in the US, attracting a community of over 30,000 enthusiasts – affectionately known as “Jackos” among themselves. The JackRabbit brand introduces its second-generation model, the OG2, with a slew of upgrades to elevate its flagship bike, the JackRabbit.

The JackRabbit is not entirely an electric bicycle in the classical sense, primarily because it deliberately omits traditional bicycle pedals and instead features foot pegs.

In a strict classification, this product belongs to the seated scooter category. While often referred to as an “electrical micro-bike” within the industry, this innovative transportation solution leverages familiar bicycle components – including wheels, seats, and handlebars – to provide a remarkably intuitive riding experience akin to that of a traditional bicycle.

While not the sole micro e-bike available, JackRabbit’s community-driven approach fosters remarkable brand loyalty among its devoted ‘Jacko’ enthusiasts, who’ve congregated at various events across the country.

Unrivaled in popularity only to SUPER73 among enthusiasts, JackRabbit has earned a devoted following from riders seeking a lightweight, portable micromobility experience that transcends conventional norms.

As a result, the JackRabbit’s endearingly comical appearance is largely due to its unusually short wheelbase and petite size, which makes for an amusing sight to behold. While the JackRabbit OG’s simplicity is undeniable, the OG2 strikes a balance between functionality and minimalism, offering just a little more without compromising its lean profile.

The core design principles remained consistent between the original OG and the new OG2: twenty-inch wheels, saddle, quick-release handlebars, folding footrests, a single rear disc brake, and an airline-compliant, quickly detachable battery certified by Underwriters Laboratories.

I’ve had the privilege of taking my trusty JackRabbit OG backpack on a global adventure, traversing over six airports and flying worldwide.

Despite its compact size, the runabout still manages a respectable speed of 20 mph (32 km/h), while its battery life remains unchanged at 10 miles (16 km) per charge, allowing riders to store an extra range in their pocket through convenient battery swaps. However, this is where the comparisons cease.

The newly launched OG2 boasts an upgraded body, featuring improved performance with its increased 275-pound weight capacity, robust strengthened foot pegs, and innovative quick-release thumb screw for effortless battery swaps and removal. The modern handlebar now pivots effortlessly up to 90 degrees, allowing for seamless flat storage against a wall or beneath a mattress, while additional attachment points enable secure mounting of accessories.

The revised text is:

Electronics-wise, this device boasts innovative hardwired LED light ports, a cutting-edge digital display showcasing an even more precise battery meter, and strategically routed internal wires and cables.

One of the latest innovations in bicycle technology is the availability of ultra-low emission (UL)-compliant swappable battery packs, which measure approximately the same size as typical energy device batteries. Regardless of advancements in JackRabbit’s fashion lines, including the larger JackRabbit XG, these designs remain steadfastly compatible in both forward and reverse directions.

Despite the introduction of new options, the JackRabbit OG2 still maintains its sleek trim. While weighing just 25 pounds (11.3 kilograms), the complete e-kickscooter experience is surprisingly stable and substantial, outperforming many compact electric scooters in terms of its sturdy build.

Available for immediate purchase at a competitive price of $1,249, the JackRabbit OG2 is currently stocked with expedited shipping options available.

Among behemoths on the road, stand out as an inconsequential e-bike.

Electrek’s Take

As a matter of fact, I confess to being an ardent supporter of the JackRabbits. It’s utterly perplexing, delightfully offbeat, and unapologetically eccentric. However it additionally . There are remarkably few 20 mph e-bikes or bike-like rides that can boast a mere 25-pound weight and fit neatly beneath a dorm room mattress or behind a sofa in a compact residence, while simultaneously featuring UL-compliant batteries that can be small enough for air travel. The numerous advantages are readily apparent.

For my money, the undeniably humorous appearance serves me just fine, no need to fix. Life is brief. Be bizarre, stand out.

While it’s accurate to note that, on a purely power-for-power basis, this approach doesn’t necessarily offer the most value for your dollar at a cost of $1,250. Paying a slight upcharge grants access to unique features you wouldn’t find elsewhere. Although e-bikes in the broader market typically command prices in the thousands of dollars, this model remains remarkably affordable given its specific niche focus. Designed for scholars and those who value practicality over power, this bike is not for thrill-seekers, but rather for those seeking a reliable ride that gets the job done efficiently.
