BMW takes the wraps off its latest electric endeavour: the i5 M60 Touring.
After teasing an electric five-door sedan for over six years, BMW has finally unveiled the i5 in its final form. This compact, fully electric vehicle takes a significant leap forward from its predecessor. BMW introduced its latest software iteration, seamlessly integrating advanced technology and the sophisticated operating system version 8.5.
The iX3 sits between the smaller i3 and larger i7 collections within BMW’s product range. As the second-best selling car in the lineup, the 5-series continues to occupy a pivotal role in driving the brand’s overall success.
The BMW iX5 has begun arriving at US dealerships since October. The BMW X5 offers two trim options: the i5 eDrive50 and the i5 M60.
The eDrive 50 option delivers a potent combination of 335 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Its advanced 81.2 kWh battery delivers an estimated 295 miles of driving range. Meanwhile, the high-performance i5 M60 is driven by dual electric motors, delivering a combined output of 593 horsepower and 586 pound-feet of torque.
Although BMW does not explicitly identify its product as the M60 model, it does confirm that an M variant is in development.
Although little concrete evidence exists, visual examination suggests that the concept car features redesigned taillights, a sleek, aerodynamic new bumper, and a discreetly integrated rear spoiler.
BMW’s M division chief, Franciscus van Meel, has confirmed that the high-performance i5 M60 Touring will hit showrooms this coming spring.
The electric vehicle is expected to feature specifications aligned with those of the i5 M60, boasting a dual-motor setup that produces 593 horsepower and 586 pound-feet of torque.
The interior is expected to seamlessly integrate BMW’s latest technology and software features, mirroring those found in the i5 model. You’re sure to count on seeing a pair of twin 12.3-inch drivers showcasing the infotainment system. The Touring model features an expanded interior cargo area that serves to store additional items effectively. Costs are expected to remain only marginally higher.
In a disappointing turn of events for U.S. enthusiasts, the i5 Touring model is not expected to be brought to market in North America, leaving fans of the brand without this highly anticipated option.
