BYD unveiled two innovative vehicles tonight: the Seal 07 DM-i and the all-electric 2025 Seal EV. The Seal 07 DM-i is a pioneering plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), boasting the fifth generation of DM innovation. Priced between ¥139,800 and ¥195,800 (approximately $19,500 to $27,300 USD), the new model will replace the current Seal DM-i, resolving the naming ambiguity surrounding its identity.

The Seal 07 DM-i’s most notable feature is its exceptional powertrain proficiency. Two powertrain options are available, combining a 1.5-litre engine with an electric motor to deliver varying levels of performance: either a 74kW engine paired with a 160kW motor for lighter versions or a turbocharged 115kW engine mated to a 200kW motor for heavier models. These powertrains boast exceptional all-electric ranges of up to 70 kilometers and 125 kilometers under the Chinese Laboratory Test Cycle (CLTC), coupled with a combined driving range of approximately 2,000 kilometers. According to BYD, its vehicle boasts a fuel efficiency rating of 34 liters per 100 kilometers. All BYD’s automotive designs feature blades powered by advanced lithium-iron-phosphate batteries, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovation and cutting-edge technology.

The revitalized mannequin boasts sleek horizontal grille lines for a contemporary aesthetic. The DM-i’s dimensions remain consistent with those of its predecessor, boasting a length of 4,980 mm, a width of 1,890 mm, and a height of 1,495 mm, with a wheelbase spanning 2,900 mm.

The interior of the Seal 07 DM-i features a sleek “Flowing Gray” aesthetic, complemented by subtle touches of aluminum trim. Equipped with either an 8.8-inch or 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, as well as a 12.8-inch or 15.6-inch central touchscreen driven by the latest DiLink technology. This optimization technique significantly boosts the interface’s response time and overall performance capabilities.

Further inside options embody:

  • 50W wi-fi charging.
  • A crystal gear shifter.
  • Panoramic solar-powered skylight featuring a retractable shade controlled by electric power.
  • A heated steering wheel.
  • An built-in perfume system.
  • Heated and ventilated seats

Unlike earlier models, this plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) now standardly features BYD’s DiPilot advanced driver assistance technology, offering stage two driving support across all trim levels. The vehicle’s comprehensive safety suite comprises 13 airbags, alongside advanced driver-assist features like Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane-Departure Intervention, all standard across the entire model range.

During the event, Zhang Zhuo, Basic Supervisor of BYD’s Ocean series, will introduce four flagship designs: Seagull, Dolphin, Seal, and Sea Lions. The dedicated sedan lineup expands to encompass Seal 05, Seal 06, Seal 07, Seal 08, and Seal 09, offering the option of electrifying propulsion through EV models or harnessing the efficiency benefits of DM-i powertrains.
