Meet the BMW i5 Touring, a luxurious and eco-friendly electric wagon.

BMW is expanding its electric lineup with the launch of a new all-electric 5 Series model. The initial electric BMW 5-Series models arrived at US dealerships in October.

Available in two trims are the eDrive40 and a high-performance M60 model. Now, BMW is unveiling its inaugural electric wagon with the highly anticipated i5 Touring. BMW introduces the latest Touring model as a “sophisticated, versatile companion designed for everyday driving experiences.”

Compared to its sedan counterpart, the Touring’s extended roofline serves as a distinguishing feature, while a refined design further optimizes its aerodynamic profile.

The newly released five-model wagon measures 97mm (3.8 inches) longer, 32mm (1.3 inches) wider, and 17mm (0.7 inches) taller compared to its predecessor. The vehicle also boasts the longest wheelbase in its class, measuring an impressive 2,995 mm (118 inches).

The newcomer boasts an identical 570L cargo capacity, which can be expanded to a generous 1,700L when the rear seats are folded down.

Extra vary, efficiency, and options

The BMW i5 Touring is expected to debut with two initial trim options: the eDrive40 Touring and the more performance-oriented M60 xDrive variant. The BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring boasts a potent powertrain, featuring a pair of electric motors that generate an impressive 601 horsepower.

With launch control activated, the electric vehicle’s torque surges to 605 pound-feet, propelling it from 0 to 62 miles per hour in a swift 3.9 seconds.

Meanwhile, the i5 eDrive40 Touring boasts a rear-mounted electric motor delivering up to 340 horsepower (250 kilowatts) and 317 pound-feet (430 Newton-meters) of torque.

A new electric vehicle design boasts an impressive 81.2-kilowatt-hour battery powering each fashion model? BMW incorporated adaptive regenerative braking and a heat pump to enhance performance. The eDrive 40 is expected to achieve a WLTP-certified range of 300-348 miles (483-560 km), while the M60 variant can reach up to 277-314 miles (445-506 km) under similar testing conditions.

The i5 Touring features 11 kW AC charging capability, with an option for up to 22 kW, and supports DC fast-charging at speeds of up to 205 kW.

BMW has equipped its latest electric wagon with cutting-edge technology and innovative software. This enhanced Drive show features BMW OS 8.5, and boasts a newly reimagined home display screen designed to simplify navigation and usability. This smartphone integration comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, ensuring seamless connectivity on the go.

The standard Stay cockpit plus comes equipped with BMW Maps’ cloud-based navigation, while the upgraded option features a Head-Up display and an augmented reality view. A related package deal offers an alternative to YouTube or another video app for streaming.

BMW is introducing the i5 Touring, a new model that will be offered in combination with gasoline, diesel, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variants. The all-new model is expected to roll off the production lines at BMW’s Dingolfing facility, with initial deliveries slated for Germany, followed by “many European countries” and then Japan, commencing in May. By the middle of next year, BMW expects varying global regions to conform to its standards for a specific product or service.
