Changan’s Deepal S05 SUV revealed interior before the launch
SHARE

The DeepL S05 crossover, backed by Changan, has unveiled its interior design ahead of the official market debut. The company should consider entering the market by introducing its entry-level model featuring both battery-electric (BEV) and extended-range electric (EREV) powertrain options. Is the S05 the crucial metric determining the Deepals’ prospects of achieving their ambitious revenue targets? Currently, production lags behind the annual target of 280,000 units by a significant margin.

The Deepal is a brand-new vitality car model introduced by Changan in 2022. Our current model lineup comprises three vehicles: the L07 sedan, featuring specifications outlined here; the S07 crossover, with details available on this page; and the G318 SUV, whose characteristics can be found elsewhere. Last year, Deepal launched its international strategy. In January 2024, Deepal introduced two new auto models, the L07 and S07, to the Thai market. This year, the Changan brand aims to sell 450,000 units worldwide, with a target of 280,000 vehicles in China alone. Despite this, Deepal’s home gross sales quantity in H1 2024 totalled a modest 83,858 vehicles.

Prior to its official unveiling, spy shots revealed glimpses of the Deepal S05’s interior design. Newly released official images provide a closer look at the vehicle’s interior design. The S05 features a distinctive brown and black color palette. The exterior design of this vehicle remains faithful to the styling cues of other models in the Deepal brand family. The central console of the S05 features a prominent floating display screen. This center console features two wireless phone charging pads and a pair of cup holders.

The Deepal S05 features a distinctive D-shaped steering wheel boasting three slender spokes. The gear shift lever nestles discreetly into its designated space beside the steering wheel. Without a traditional gauge cluster, the Deepal S05 presents a distinctive feature. The head-up display (HUD) serves as an alternative.

Doors to the Deepal’s fifth season employ unconventional button-operated mechanisms instead of traditional handles. This second row features an air vent, two conveniently located USB ports, and a sturdy middle headrest providing ample support for passengers. The Deepal S05 boasts an impressive array of attention-grabbing features.

Extra about Deepal S05

The Deepal S05 is a compact, all-electric vehicle (NEV) crossover boasting a diminutive yet well-proportioned design, measuring 4,620 millimeters in length, 1,900 millimeters in width, and 1,600 millimeters in height, with a wheelbase of 2,880 millimeters. The sleek design of this vehicle’s entrance finish is characterized by slender headlights, a distinctive trapeze-shaped air intake, discreetly integrated door handles, and a solitary taillight assembly. The all-wheel drive sports utility vehicle comes equipped with either R18 or R20 wheels.

The Deepal S05 is equipped with a 175 kW (238 horsepower) electric motor, drawing power from a 56.12 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack, designed to support its 510-kilometer driving range. Its curb weight is a substantial 1,720 kilograms. The EREV variant features a 160-kilowatt electric motor mated to 17.08- and 27.28-kilohertz lithium-ion ferrophosphate batteries, delivering 218 horsepower. The range is approximately 62 to 93 miles. Underneath its sleek exterior, the S05 is powered by a naturally aspirated internal combustion engine (ICE), producing a respectable 72 kilowatts (98 horsepower). The curb weight of this variant is approximately 1,497 kilograms.

The all-new Deepal S05 is set to debut in the market this year. The compact SUV will serve as a entry-point to the brand’s lineup. With the current pace, Deepal is far from meeting its ambitious target of 280,000 units in annual sales, prompting an urgent need to revamp and relaunch their flagship mannequin. During the initial half-year of 2024, Deepal supplied a total of 83,858 vehicles. It’s unclear whether Deepal will achieve this bold goal. Despite these challenges, a successful S05 launch could lead to a substantial boost in gross sales volume.
