Since BYD’s inception in 1995, the company has experienced an unprecedented surge of innovative automotive releases over the past year, with no signs of slowing down in 2024. The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has announced that it will release two new variants of its popular Seal model on August 8: an electric vehicle (EV) and a DM-i hybrid version.
Although the SE and DM-i iterations of the Seal 07 share a common name and similar aesthetic, the extent of their connection remains uncertain. The two models’ distinct exterior design elements – the closed entrance on the EV and the 5-slat grille on the DM-i – make them easily distinguishable at first glance.
The Seal 07 DM-i has dimensions of approximately 4,980mm in length, 1,890mm in width, and 1,495mm in height, with a wheelbase of around 2,900mm. When submitting records to MIIT, there are three specific vehicle listings, each bearing unique weights of 1,795 kilograms, 1,900 kilograms, and 1,960 kilograms, in that order?

The new automotive offering is designed as an alternative to the current Seal DM-i model, while the 07 DM-i variant features BYD’s innovative DM 5.0 technology. It’s the pioneering automotive to diverge from dependence on its naturally aspirated 1.5-liter engine, boasting 74 kW of power output. Although available on lower-spec models, more advanced versions of the powertrain are built around a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine delivering 115 kilowatts of power. Are there also two electrical motor options available, each with a distinct power output: one at 160 kilowatts and another at 200 kilowatts?
As is, we don’t require any data regarding battery capacities or clarification on the powertrain’s implications for varying or gasoline-based fuel efficiency. Despite the larger dimensions of the automotive, combined with the more powerful engine and motor configuration, we expect fuel efficiency and consumption to deteriorate compared to the Seal 06 DM-i, which debuted BYD’s fifth-generation plug-in hybrid electric vehicle technology.
The BYD Seal 07’s EV model serves as a replacement for its predecessor, the all-electric BYD Seal, which offered a distinct driving experience. Minimal outward modifications are discernible, with the overall dimensions remaining static at 4,800mm in length, 1,875mm in width, and 1,460mm in height; the wheelbase also stays consistent at 2,920mm. With its current design, the Seal offers both single- and dual-motor configurations. Consumers opting for the single-motor variant are presented with a choice of two powerful electrical motor options: 170 kW or 230 kW. Twin-motor configurations utilize a rear-mounted 230 kW motor and supplement this with an additional 160 kW motor situated at the entrance axle, enhancing overall power output. Prime pace is 225 km/h.

Estimated battery capacities stand at 61.44 kWh and 80.64 kWh for the single-motor variant, supporting respective CLTC ranges of 510 kilometres and 650 kilometres. The driving range of our twin motor variant is approximately 600 kilometers. The battery type is specifically identified as lithium iron phosphate blade cells, which power the Seal 07’s advanced cell-to-body design.
The Beneath the Seal 07 EV features a cutting-edge e-platform 3.0 Evo, boasting an innovative 800V architecture that significantly enhances charging efficiency and enables rapid charging capabilities of up to 240 kW. The e-platform 3.0 Evo launched in July along with the Sea Lion 07. The Highlights brand features a cutting-edge 12-in-1 electrical drive system.

New spy shots of the BYD Seal 07 EV’s interior reveal a more minimalist design compared to its predecessor, striking similarities with the Sea Lion 07 EV.

The DM-i and EV variants of the automobile are expected to offer a Lidar option. By integrating advanced AI-driven technologies, this innovative solution has the potential to revolutionize driver assistance features, empowering drivers with unparalleled support and increased road safety.
