Xpeng hosted a pioneering AI-powered autonomous driving expertise convention on the evening of July 30. The flagship announcement concerns the rollout of Xpeng’s AI-powered Dimensity XOS 5.2.0, which will begin to be deployed to Chinese customers starting July 30 and in another 10 countries, including Germany, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, and France on August 15. The release comprises 72 innovative features and 412 refined functionalities. The latest features in this series offer a range of innovative enhancements, including refined driver assistance and intuitive cockpit updates, all seamlessly integrated with Apple devices for an enhanced user experience.
The most significant changes appear to be those affecting XNGP. At the convention, He Xiaopeng announced that Xpeng’s comprehensive end-to-end model has significantly expedited the development of its intelligent driving capabilities. Xpeng invests 3.5 billion yuan (approximately 483 million USD) in AI-powered coaching, harnessing the potential of computing power and human expertise. As he asserts, this has enabled Xpeng to accelerate its advanced driver-assistance systems development, resulting in a new model iteration every two days, a skills upgrade every fortnight, five comprehensive updates within 70 days, and 35 total iterations.
Despite relying heavily on AI, XNGP’s development involves a significant amount of hands-on testing – 7.56 million kilometers of actual car testing have taken place, covering an impressive 2,595 cities nationwide. XNGP operates on a blacklist system rather than a whitelist system, whereby all routes are initially permitted unless explicitly blacklisted due to specific reasons, such as being situated in a sensitive area.
XNGP will be launched nationwide, offering seamless accessibility across the country. New options now incorporate a cutting-edge 100-meter monitoring system. When an automobile encounters a blockage and must back up to clear the obstruction. Automotive owners can now take advantage of innovative 2.0 Parking technology, which enables drivers to safely exit their vehicle while it seamlessly parks itself.
Now, XNGP’s reliance on high-precision maps is no longer a requirement, enabling nationwide utilization while minimizing the frequency of heavy braking, false pace discounts, and conditions akin to optimizing route choices, detours, and obstacle avoidance. Effective urban driving techniques involve navigating congested city streets shared with two-wheeled vehicles and pedestrians, while adhering to designated lanes and avoiding encroachment on adjacent roads. The newly developed system enables seamless overtaking capabilities by leveraging the alternative lane in specific circumstances, thereby augmenting the practicality of XNGP, allowing for continuous motion without requiring driver intervention or coming to a complete halt. The roundabout’s capacity has been enhanced, allowing for seamless entry, exit, and lane changes within its confines. Moreover, if a visitor is gently driving within the roundabout, the vehicle can stop or start according to the instructions of the traffic light.
He Xiaopeng stressed that Xpeng’s customers were not test subjects, reassuring them that the vehicle’s system was thoroughly vetted and proven to be secure. He also announced that a prior OTA update will be rolled out before year’s end, further enhancing XNGP’s capabilities, allowing features such as automatic passage through electronic toll collection (ETC) turnstiles and unlocking internal roads on campus settings like university premises. The XNGP is available on high-end models of the G6, G9, P7i, and X9 vehicles.
Cockpit adjustments
The AI-powered Dimensity XOS 5.2.0 enables seamless integration with Siri, allowing for streamlined control over select vehicle features like Sentry Mode and Quick Cooling, thereby unlocking the benefits of a unified Apple ecosystem. On a mobile device, as you listen to a song, your car’s infotainment system will automatically recognize the track and seamlessly start playing it once you step into the vehicle.
The replacement also introduces diverse customization options for presenting information. XPeng claims that its over-the-air (OTA) technology enables owners to access an additional 80 vehicle settings and features remotely. The game now features an innovative immersive map with two distinct modes: Navigation Mode, where players can explore the surroundings with pinpoint accuracy, and Cruising Mode, which allows for a more leisurely experience, perfect for taking in the sights.
The driving mode will be tailored to a significantly greater extent, with personalized settings for steering wheel texture, energy recovery, braking, and suspension, all designed to cater to individual preferences.
The Xpeng AI Dimensity system’s latest version, 5.2.0, will first roll out to the X9, G6, G9, and P7 models before expanding to the P5, G3, and G3i lineups.
Different bulletins
He Xiaopeng issued a variety of bulletins to commemorate the evening’s events. The Xpeng brand’s new electric vehicle, the Mona M03, is slated to hit stores on August 1, with pricing details to be revealed during its official launch event later that month.
