As of 2022, the demand for electric vehicles continues to surge forward. By setting concrete end-of-life deadlines for traditional combustion engines, many legacy automobile manufacturers are now accelerating the transition towards an electric future, simultaneously expanding their product offerings with a growing range of all-electric models. This year alone, the world is poised to witness the launch of more than twenty new electric vehicle models, spanning a wide range from the most luxurious to remarkably affordable options. Below is a list of available and soon-to-be-released electric vehicles (EVs), along with their price tags.
Electrical vehicles’ high prices stem from various factors including the cost of batteries, advanced technology, and economies of scale.
The complex dynamics driving recent electric vehicle pricing involve a multitude of factors. Provide chains, meeting strains, and R&D can all play some half within the MSRP of an electrical automobile earlier than its first sale.
One of the most pressing concerns today is undoubtedly the rising cost of batteries. Battery packs are crucial to the prolonged lifespan and optimal performance of any electric vehicle, although their high cost is a significant drawback. Advances in battery technology and charging methods have significantly contributed to lowering the cost of electric vehicles over the past few years.
Regardless, current battery components are sourced and manufactured by a select few suppliers, such as those based in China. Importing a range of foreign-sourced assets and components can increase the overall value that an automaker must charge customers to generate profits, ultimately impacting their bottom line.
Within the United States, automotive manufacturers are shifting away from dependence on foreign battery suppliers, instead opting to establish their own domestic manufacturing facilities, a move aimed at streamlining supply chains and reducing overall costs.
The cars discussed below boast an impressive array of luxurious features, even in their most entry-level trim levels.
Which of these electric vehicles from 2022 are going to set you back a pretty penny? Here’s the top 10 most expensive ones:
1. Lucid Motors Air Grand Touring – $169,000

Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum
Long before its first delivery, Ford’s F-150 Lightning was primed for excellence. With a staggering 200,000-plus reservations secured, it’s clear that initial interest in the all-electric pickup has been overwhelmingly strong. As a result, Ford has doubled down on the Lightning’s production capacity twice over.
While the base model Customary Professional trim for the F-150 Lightning starts at around $40,000, its appeal increases with a range of options culminating in the luxurious Platinum edition. The highly anticipated Platinum F-150 Lightning has finally debuted, boasting a significant price tag that solidifies its position as one of the most expensive electric pickups in the market this year. This trim features 22-inch aluminum alloy wheels with black-painted accents, as well as heated and ventilated Nirvana leather-trimmed seats, along with a standard extended battery pack.
This electric vehicle delivers an EPA-estimated range of 280 miles, all for a price tag of under $90,874. All 2022 trims of the Ford F-150 Lightning have commenced delivery, with reservations available now for those awaiting the release of next year’s models, slated to hit showrooms in early 2024.
Rivian R1S Journey Version
Rivian appears poised for sustained success in 2022, given its current trajectory as a prominent electric vehicle manufacturer. In late September, Rivian began delivering customized versions of its R1T pickup to customers from its production lines, marking a historic milestone as the first company to mass-produce a fully electric truck.
As the Launch Editions have sold out, the highly anticipated seven-seat R1S SUV is now available to eager buyers. The Its Journey Edition trim starts at a purchase price of $75,500 for the Giant Pack battery, ensuring an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated range of 316 miles from the get-go?
Rivian’s current facility in Normal, Illinois, as well as its forthcoming second facility in Georgia, will be capable of assembling the R1S trim models. The journey and discover trims of the R1S are expected to launch later this year.

Fisker Ocean: Launch Edition, Excessive One
To align expectations, we must note that the Fisker Ocean’s price varies significantly depending on the trim level chosen, ranging from relatively affordable to more expensive than other comparable electric vehicles. At last year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, the Ocean generated significant buzz upon its unveiling, thanks to its sleek design, impressive features, and most notably, its competitive pricing.
Founder and CEO Henrik Fisker disclosed that the Sport trim of the forthcoming Ocean will commence at a base price of $37,999. This means that eligible buyers could potentially secure an Ocean for just above $30,000, should they qualify for the full $7,500 EV tax credit in the US.
While that’s a significant selling point for those looking to switch to electric, the Ocean Sport may not be suitable for everyone. Positioned at the other end of the pricing scale is the Ocean One.
This launch edition trim of the Ocean comes equipped with all high-tier options, including 22-inch F3 SlipStream Wheels, a SolarSky roof that promises to add an additional 29 miles per week, and a special “Ocean One” designation accompanied by an optional Large Sur Blue finish with Metallic Matte End.
The 5,000 One model will be available initially, while the same options will be offered on the High trim excluding paint and badging, with a combined MSRP of $68,990, both arriving in November.
