First Aion Y Plus cars ship to Indonesia as GAC expands in the region

GAC Aion successfully shipped its inaugural consignment of 500 Aion Y Plus vehicles to Indonesia on July 26, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s international expansion. A fleet of vehicles had embarked from Xinsha Port in Guangdong province. The latest addition to the global expansion of the Aion model’s international footprint is the newest transfer. Upon the successful completion and start-up of the Thai plant on July 17.

In December, the Aion model hosted a successful launch event in Jakarta, Indonesia, where it unveiled its comprehensive strategy for the Indonesian market. Two versions of the Aion Y Plus were launched in Indonesia, specifically designed for the local market: Unique (410km range) and Premium (490km range), with a price range of 415,000,000 to 475,000,000 IDR (approximately $25,200 to $28,900 USD). We unveil a comprehensive strategy to introduce four fashion lines into the Indonesian market over the next 12 months, with initial indications pointing towards the Hyper HT as the standout model in our second release? Additionally, Hyundai has tipped for the market its second-generation Aion V, a vehicle designed to be a true global player.

The Aion Y Plus was showcased at the model’s launch event in Jakarta in June 2024.

Following GAC Aion’s official launch in Indonesia in April this year, it has also entered into a strategic partnership with local automotive leader Indomobil. The agreement encompasses territories related to automotive production, retail, maintenance, and related financial services.

Planned investment name for the Aion model to establish a manufacturing facility in Indonesia with an annual capacity of 100,000 vehicles? Despite claims from Autohome that production will commence by year’s end, there is no evidence to suggest construction on the manufacturing facility has started.

The Aion Y Plus, with its cutting-edge AEP 2.0 platform, boasts an impressive size profile: 45.35 cm in length, 18.7 cm in width, and 16.5 cm in height, coupled with a substantial wheelbase of 27.5 cm. The automobile features a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen display and a 10.25-inch high-definition LCD instrument cluster.

While 2024 fashion trends may exhibit reduced battery capacities and shorter ranges compared to earlier model-year vehicles, Currently, Chinese automobiles typically come equipped with either a 37.9-kilowatt-hour (kWh) or 49.8-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack, allowing for ranges of approximately 310 kilometers and 430 kilometers, respectively, under the Chinese national standard’s city cycle testing protocol (CLTC). List prices for checklists in China range between 99,800 and 116,800 yuan, equivalent to approximately $13,750 to $16,100 USD.

As GAC Aion expands its global footprint, it is making rapid inroads into a diverse array of markets. Having successfully penetrated the ASEAN markets, the company is poised to rapidly expand its presence in tandem with Qatar and Mexico.
