To alleviate the anticipated influx of tourists during the Olympic Games, city officials have been working diligently to prepare. As the team’s engineer, I can confirm that we are working on removing half of these wheels from the highway.

Paris has relentlessly pursued a commitment to cycling, actively promoting the use of bicycles and scooters within the city centre by restricting larger vehicles such as cars and vans. The announcement of a transformative transportation route has sparked both consternation and acclaim from ardent automobile enthusiasts, while simultaneously having a profound impact on the local community.

The town has employed diverse tactics, including offering up to $4,000 to residents who trade in their old gas guzzlers for motorcycles, increasing parking fees threefold for large SUVs, and banning vehicles from the city centre entirely. Concurrently, the town has invested heavily in developing cycling infrastructure to boost safety and comfort for bike commuters.

The consequences have resulted in a substantial decrease in urban air pollution, and this shift has also transformed the traffic dynamics over time, rendering it increasingly enjoyable to explore the city on foot, bicycle, or scooter.

As the highly anticipated Summer Season Olympics finally get underway, Paris is revving up its engines and gearing up for a thrilling experience. The town, which had previously invested in a comprehensive network of protected bike lanes, has further expanded its infrastructure by adding an additional 60 kilometres (37 miles) of these lanes, connecting key Olympic sites. Pink bike lanes connect Olympic venues, facilitating a fun and convenient way for visitors and locals alike to navigate to events.

To enhance the sustainability and cyclist-friendly infrastructure, the town has installed an additional 10,000 bike racks outside Olympic venues, ensuring riders have a secure location to lock their bicycles. Post-event, these racks will be strategically relocated throughout Paris.

Lime, the leading e-bike and e-scooter sharing platform, is investing a significant €6 million in Paris ahead of the Olympics, ensuring it has an adequate supply of shared electric bicycles and services to cater to the increased demand during the events. The corporation has witnessed a significant surge in the adoption of its shared electric bicycles over the past few years, thanks to Paris’s remarkable advancements in developing its cycling infrastructure through protected bike lanes and cycleways.

“As Shari Shapiro, Head of International Coverage at Lime, described it, ‘This is their moment in the global spotlight – a signature second when the entire world’s gaze will be fixed on them.'” As they seized the opportunity, they declared with conviction, ‘This is going to be a bike-friendly event.’
