BMW launches its charging network, BMW Charging, in North America, teaming up with Shell Recharge to expand the reach of its electric vehicle charging ecosystem. With its recent expansion, the community grants access to a vast network of over 100,000 charging stations across the continent, effortlessly available through either the vehicle’s built-in system or a user-friendly mobile app.
BMW aims to build on its electrified success from the previous year as it enters the first quarter of 2024, seeking to sustain its momentum in this area. In 2023, BMW’s all-electric sales nearly doubled, as the company expanded its offerings with the introduction of the i5 and other new models, further solidifying its position in the evolving electric vehicle market.
Concurrently, BMW is driving various initiatives to accelerate electric vehicle charging infrastructure development across North America and globally. The automaker joined six other major manufacturers in launching a tripartite venture in July 2023, aiming to install more than 30,000 electric vehicle rapid charging stations across North America. We have since come to understand that collaboration is indeed referred to as International Online Network for Navigating Alliances.
Furthermore, BMW has established a collaborative venture with Ford and Honda to enhance local electric grid infrastructure across the region, encouraging other original equipment manufacturers to join the initiative. Additionally, the company has committed to implementing the North America Charging Standard (NACS) on its future electric vehicles.
The German luxury car manufacturer has launched a brand-new community, BMW Charging, powered by Shell Recharge, providing EV drivers in North America access to tens of thousands more charging points.
BMW and Shell Recharge partner to provide exclusive charging offers for BMW electric vehicle owners, offering a free additional home charger with the purchase of a Level 2 (240-volt) station.
Although BMW’s recent developments were relatively subdued, it has come to our attention that BMW Charging has partnered with Shell Recharge Solutions as its second electric vehicle charging provider, marking a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to expand its charging infrastructure. As a result, BMW electric vehicle owners gain access to charging stations through Shell Recharge, ChargePoint, EVgo, EVConnect, and Blink via the My BMW app.
Through this agreement, BMW Charging will provide one of the largest electric vehicle charging networks to its drivers, offering access to more than 100,000 additional charging stations across the US and Canada. BMW of North America’s Governmental Vice President for Operations, Shaun Bugbee, noted the expansion of
Shell Recharge to the community:
