Bike Of The Day: 1981 BMW R100RT Cafe Racer
SHARE

The 1981 BMW R100RT has undergone significant transformations, featuring a comprehensive rebuild of its air-cooled, 980cc opposed twin engine, alongside the installation of a custom quarter fairing, an upgraded electrical system, a grey leather solo seat, and a two-into-one exhaust configuration.

The bike’s appearance was elevated through a sophisticated refinishing process, featuring a deep blue and black palette. The digital gauge cluster is strategically positioned ahead of the clip-on handlebars, which also accommodate Motone switches and streamlined control cables.

The bike boasts a robust metal double-cradle frame, finished in matte black, and features a distinctive custom quarter fairing and a substantial 6.3-gallon fuel tank adorned with a striking blue and grey color scheme. The motorcycle features an LED-equipped headlight and taillight, an adjustable suspension system, and a sleek grey leather solo seat integrated with a customized rear subframe.

The wheels, a masterful blend of form and function, feature a stunning silver-painted finish on forged alloy snowflake designs, boasting dimensions of 19 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear. They are paired with high-performance Avon Roadrider MK II tires for unparalleled grip and control. The suspension system boasts a leading-axle fork and a single shock absorber mounted on the rear swingarm. Energy stopping power originates from a dual-front brake setup paired with a single rear disc brake.

The air-cooled 980cc opposed twin received a comprehensive overhaul, featuring upgraded seals and ignition coils, a revitalized ignition system, and a bespoke electrical arrangement comprising a Motogadget M-Unit Blue digital controller and an Antigravity 8-cell lithium battery. The motor sports enthusiast’s dream machine further boasts an electrical starter, a harmonious two-into-one exhaust system featuring a Werkes muffler, and precision-crafted twin Bing carburetors.

With its sleek lines, aggressive stance, and nostalgic charm, this bike will transport you back in time to an era of rebellion and self-expression.

Energy is transmitted to the rear wheel through a five-speed transmission, a single-plate dry clutch, and an enclosed driveshaft within the swingarm’s fitting leg.
