Tesla expands self-driving upgrade offer, now providing $1,000 discount on new vehicles for customers transitioning from Enhanced Autopilot to advanced autonomous features.
Tesla owners who purchased the $15,000 Full Self-Driving Capability (FSD) package have long sought the ability to transfer this feature when trading in their vehicles for a newer model.
The logic behind Tesla’s claims proved flawed: the company failed to deliver on its ambitious promise of self-driving technology. While some may still hope for a software-based solution from Tesla, it’s reasonable for homeowners to have the option to upgrade their package to a new vehicle.
Despite lacking a clear business case, Tesla consistently rejected the notion.
Notwithstanding initial reservations, the agreement was reached, albeit with a caveat: it would only apply to orders placed during Q3 2023. CEO Elon Musk explicitly emphasized that this concession was a one-time exception.
It’s a one-time opportunity, making it crucial to capitalize on this in Q3; at the very least, schedule the order for Q3 within achievable lead times. What brings joy to others? However, I assume that’s a one-time exception, don’t you?
We condemned this transfer because, rather than prioritizing the best interests of Tesla’s customers, it served as a “delay tactic” to artificially generate more orders within a specific time frame – by exploiting their own inability to deliver on promised products.
Despite Musk’s explicit assurance that this is a one-time opportunity, we believed he would revisit the policy again in the future.
Tesla reintroduced its referral program in April and then did so again earlier this month.
Musk declared this would be the “final quarter”, a claim he had made previously.
Tesla has announced an extension of its offer until September 30th, and is also expanding it to include customers with Enhanced Autopilot capabilities.
When upgrading from Enhanced Autopilot to Full Self-Driving Capability (FSD), Tesla informs prospective customers that they can transfer their upgraded system to a new vehicle and receive a $1,000 discount.
Upgrade your Enhanced Autopilot to Full Self-Driving Capability (FSD), then seamlessly transfer the technology to a new Tesla purchase and receive a $1,000 credit towards your new vehicle. Take advantage of this opportunity by September 30, 2024, to ensure your eligibility.
The program will continue to operate until it reaches the end of the quarter.
Electrek’s Take
We need to present this opportunity to Tesla. Marketing efforts are focusing on highlighting the unique value proposition of FSD, touted as the most exceptional software solution available, despite the challenge of effectively promoting its benefits.
Are there more vehicles with Enhanced Autopilot (EA) than Full Self-Driving Capability (FSD), but neither is currently available for purchase in North America?
As an alternative approach for individuals with existing Enterprise Agreement (EA) who are undecided about Full Self-Driving Capability (FSD), but considering a new vehicle, they can acquire a new car with a $1,000 discount without having to relinquish their EA or, at the very least, obtain EA via FSD, which boasts all the features of its predecessor.
