In 2017, Royal Enfield initially introduced its 650 twin concept, but it took two more years for these motorcycles to hit the market. Upon its launch, the company attributed this achievement to further enhancements in the bike’s handling capabilities. With the collaboration of Australian-based Paul Younger and Harris Efficiency, an Enfield subsidiary, they developed a chassis that far outperforms its modest specifications. The 650cc parallel twin engine has also impressed a significant number of builders with its capabilities. Usually characterized as having gone out of tune, the engine can be easily recalibrated to produce a substantial increase in power without compromising its dependability. Considering its competitive pricing, entering racing events with this bike seems a natural decision. It was only when I forced myself out of my comfort zone that I began to realize the error of my ways?
Royal Enfield has actively cultivated a thriving 650cc twin-cylinder racing culture. By investing in a bespoke manufacturing facility, the Nought Tea GT 650, and the GT Cup racing series, they have successfully achieved this milestone. The single-model GT Cup racing series welcomes any rider possessing a 650cc twin-engine motorcycle, allowing them to participate in events held globally across various locations.
Riders looking to participate in the Royal Enfield GT Cup must purchase a Continental GT racing package specifically designed for their motorcycle. The motorcycle features a modified bodywork configuration, including an entrance race cowl and single-seat rear cowl, as well as additional protective components such as an engine skid plate, decreased clip-on handlebars, tank pads, lever guards, and engine crash guards, all of which are complemented by the presence of Remus efficiency mufflers. Since every bike is evenly matched, the outcome of the race ultimately hinges on the skills of each individual rider.
When a person succumbs to the allure of motorsports, they inevitably become hooked on the thrill of competition. This leads to a perpetual cycle of seeking out new racing experiences.
Orion Porta, a Paris-based motorcycle builder at the helm of Ormotors, has elevated his Royal Enfield racing endeavors to new heights. With three decades of experience in crafting custom bicycles under his belt, Orion’s portfolio is heavily weighted towards Enfield models. As a direct result, he has earned the distinction of being a licensed vendor for that prestigious brand. As expected, Örmotors’ entry into the French GT Cup series with a GT racing package bike came as no surprise. However, this 2020 GT650 iteration is an entirely new proposition.
I acquired this bicycle brand-new in 2020 with the intention of personalizing it. Orion notes that since its initial iteration, the {custom} bike has undergone numerous distinct transformations. He expresses enthusiasm for the GT 650 variant specifically. It’s made to be remodeled. The humble bicycle can be an absolute thrill to ride, whether you’re taking a leisurely spin or pushing your limits on the track!
Orion’s latest iteration of its GT 650 model marks a significant exploration of the bike’s efficiency capabilities. The Omotors Racing Continental Tremendous GT boasts a striking design, but what lies beneath its sleek facade is a genuine racing machine’s foundation.
On its surface, the Tremendous GT is dressed in a unique set of custom components meticulously curated by its venture partners. A striking renovation is the fully refurbished outer fairing adorning the entrance facade. Renowned Thai designer and fabricator Aekkarat Aittharit, also known as Max Fairing, crafts bespoke bodywork for modern Enfields and Triumphs, elevating the aesthetic appeal of these iconic motorcycles. This custom-designed fairing is tailored specifically for the GT 650 model, and its secure attachment relies on the supplied brackets provided by Aekkarat.
The sleek, aerodynamic design of the vehicle features a triangle-shaped panel arrangement that seamlessly integrates into the body’s overall aesthetic. The sleek, trimmed-down fenders, a product of French workshop BAAK’s craftsmanship, stand out as a testament to their expertise. Although the seat and rear cowl adhere to traditional GT 650 design, a bespoke touch is added with the Alcantara-upholstered saddle tailored to Orion’s distinct specifications. While retaining the inventory tail unit, the GT 650’s proportions become significantly more compact. The outcome of removing the unnecessary undercarriage from the motorcycle inventory. A sleek new exhaust system is now completed, featuring a seamless weld where a fresh hoop seamlessly integrates with the rear cowl’s curvature, harmoniously paired with the relocated license plate secured by a sturdy, custom-designed mount.
Orion persists in addressing lingering problems by thoroughly overhauling the cockpit’s layout and structure. The original Rolex Daytona’s subtle yet sophisticated transformation from twin gauge to a single, sleek dial design embodies its characteristic blend of understated elegance and precise watchmaking prowess. The OKV Diablo has replaced the original inventory controls with customised blacked-out clip-on handlebars and offset footpeg units. Significant advancements have been made in both form and function.
The newly installed handlebars boast Beringer levers, a push-button switchgear setup, and ODI’s V-Twin x Vans grips, all finished in sleek black. For an unassuming ride, the standard barrel key ignition has given way to a sleek Motogadget key fob system, while subtly integrated LED indicator lights discreetly signal turns in both urban and rural excursions.
“Orion has pushed the limits of innovation to transform his Royal Enfield into a high-performance machine, boasting an array of modifications designed specifically for improved racing efficiency.”
Starting with the detailing of the bike’s wheels, a crisp narrative unfolds: The setup features sleek 17-inch black Excel rims paired with black-spoke lacing. Orion chose Pirelli’s Diablo Supercorsa SC, a high-performance, street-legal racing tire designed specifically for supersport racing, to provide exceptional grip and traction. The installation of a comprehensive Beringer braking system has significantly enhanced stopping power, while a completely revamped suspension setup ensures a smooth ride. With forks precision-tuned using YSS components, they are securely fastened to a meticulously crafted triple clamp manufactured by Hedgehog Motors. Inside the rear compartment, you’ll find high-performance efficiency shocks from The Magicals.
The Royal Enfield GT 650’s 47hp inventory model won’t exactly get the heart pounding with excitement. Orion has addressed concerns by radically overhauling its parallel-twin model. Internally there’s an S&S camshaft and clutch. The 650 high finish has been changed by an S&S huge bore 865cc package and a Dynojet Energy Commander manages the fueling. Contained in the airbox, you’ll discover a Okay&N efficiency filter and the 2-into-1 exhaust is bespoke; that includes headers fabricated by Kust Participant and an S&S muffler. These adjustments result in a significant 53% boost in energy, empowering a newly recalibrated rear-wheel output of 72 horsepower.
Without a doubt, any conclusion to this narrative would falter without a nod to the bicycle’s exquisite paintwork. The vibrant purple and white colour scheme caught attention due to the exceptional paintwork on the scooter. In the 1980s, Brendan “Maca” McNally created a distinctive design, which was prominently featured on a customised Rosa Bianca Down City Lambretta. Orion and his friends conceptualized a design featuring racing-style sponsor logos and decals, which was then brought to life by Marc Kustom Colours. To guarantee that the paint receives the attention it merits, the entire engine is finished in a sleek black coat.
With a comprehensive approach that covers all aspects, Orion’s efforts have undoubtedly yielded significant results. While the Royal Enfield GT 650 excels as a well-rounded performer from the manufacturing facility, its Tremec GT 6-speed transmission is a game-changer. “This potent tool yields outstanding results, with its effectiveness immediately evident.” The innovative body design enables environmentally conscious racing while sending thrill-seekers wild on the streets!
