Aventon, a pioneering e-bike brand from Brea, California, renowned for elevating the bar in the premium electric bike segment, has unveiled its most advanced model yet.
The Aventon Ramblas, the brand’s inaugural dedicated e-MTB, boasts a proprietary mid-drive motor delivering impressive torque and power.
Despite its reputation for offering affordable e-bikes, Aventon’s Ramblas appears poised to take on premium e-bike designs beyond its typical market sphere?
While Aventon’s recent focus on refining its e-bike designs may have been driven by a desire to bring more features within reach of a budget-conscious market, the transfer itself appears reasonable given this strategic shift.
The Ramblas has taken the initiative to an unprecedented level for Avantón, especially with the company’s newly installed powerplant. For the first time ever, Aventon is unveiling its proprietary A100 mid-drive motor with a built-in torque sensor, specifically designed for the new Ramblas e-mountain bike.
This IP67-rated motor boasts personalized tuning via the Aventon app, featuring a total of 15 pedal assist levels, comprising three profiles (eco, path, and turbo), each with five customizable settings. The electric motor boasts a consistent power output of 250 watts, along with a substantial 100 Newton-meters of torque, and is designed to function seamlessly even when fully immersed in water.
Don’t let concerns about the supposedly 250W-rated motor deter you. Almost universally, mid-drive motors on the market are standardized at a power output of 250W, making it easier for manufacturers to offer a wide range of products that meet varying regional energy requirements, particularly in countries with lower wattage limits. According to corporate definitions, the maximum output energy peaks at a precise 750 watts.
The Ramblas’ motor sustains a nominal output of 250 watts, where “nominal” denotes the consistent power delivery during a standardized test over a specified duration. Featuring a robust motor design, the turbo mode is capable of delivering a maximum power output of 750 watts when operating at full energy capacity. This versatile e-bike is perfect for navigating various terrain, from hill climbs and trail excursions to casual cruising through urban landscapes.
The 100Nm torque benchmark provides a genuine measure of an engine’s performance, as torque figures are not subject to regulatory manipulation, allowing manufacturers to provide accurate specifications without fear of reprisal. Torque values are often the most revealing indicator of a motor’s actual performance, providing a straightforward means to gauge its precise efficiency based on specifications.
With a torque output of 100 Nm, Aventon’s new mid-drive motor outperforms most retail motors on the market, eclipsing even the offerings from industry giants like Bosch, Brose, Yamaha, and Shimano in terms of sheer power.
The motor is driven by a 36-volt, 708 watt-hour battery, consisting of high-quality LG 21700-format cells. The corporation asserts that its technology could potentially benefit an area spanning approximately 80 miles (130 km).
The e-bike’s lightweight construction features a 56-lb (25.4 kg) frame crafted from high-strength 6061 aluminum, providing an ideal balance of power-to-weight ratio. Its suspension system is equipped with a RockShox 35 fork, offering 130mm of travel to absorb road imperfections and enhance overall ride quality. The SRAM NX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain provides seamless gear shifting and ample gearing options for tackling various terrain. For added versatility, the KS dropper seatpost allows riders to adjust their saddle height on the fly. Additionally, the e-bike is equipped with a powerful braking system featuring 4-piston SRAM hydraulic disc brakes, with a larger 200mm rotor upfront and a 180mm rotor at the rear, providing exceptional stopping power and control in all conditions. LED lighting can be seamlessly integrated into the chainstays to preserve the bike’s sleek appearance when viewed from the rear.
The bike comes in four different frame sizes: Small (S), Medium (M), Large (L), and Extra-Large (XL). All fashions, excluding the S model, come equipped with 29×2.4″ Maxxis tires; meanwhile, the S body measurement features 27.5×2.4″ Maxxis tires, differing from the others.
While designed for casual cruising, the e-bike’s modest top speed and throttle-free operation ensure compliance with US Class 1 regulations, allowing riders access to many popular mountain bike trails.
The Aventon Ramblas boasts a competitive MSRP of $2,699, with immediate availability on Aventon’s website as well as through its extensive network of authorized retailers.
