NIO unveiled a thrilling promotional clip showcasing its innovative Skyride suspension technology, poised to make its debut on the forthcoming ET9 flagship sedan in early 2025. Additionally, Nio hinted at the forthcoming release of the Nio Telephone 2.
The Nio ET9’s suspension system demonstrates impressive responsiveness, swiftly adapting to the subtle movements of the smartphone’s screen. While playing tabletop soccer, the entire playing field is mounted on top of an automotive, allowing the player to control the ball’s movement as it interacts with the car, ultimately aiming to score by directing the ball into the goal.
As the Skyride suspension synchronizes with the smartphone via Bluetooth, it leverages the device’s built-in gyroscope to replicate its movements. The entire takeover is conducted by Nio’s senior engineer, Neil Lei.
Nio’s innovative Skyride technology boasts a pioneering design – a built-in hydraulic system that delivers an unparalleled level of dynamic suspension, revolutionizing the way vehicles interact with the road. This high-speed method responds within a millisecond’s notice, while its advanced brushless motor enables up to 1,000 rapid torque adjustments every second.
The sophisticated coordination of four-wheel control ensures seamless traction and stability. Each of ET9’s four wheels can be controlled individually, allowing for six-way adjustment, according to Nio.
In the accompanying promotional video, the innovative feature of adjustable automotive physics during tabletop soccer, dubbed by Nio as ” “, enables users to calibrate the simulation along six axes via their smartphone’s gyroscope. The Shanghai-based startup aims to demonstrate the dynamic suspension system’s exceptional capabilities, boasting low latency, rapid response times, and precise control for a seamless driving experience.
The SkyRide’s suspension adjustment range spans +40 mm to -50 mm, accommodating diverse driving scenarios. The adaptive suspension system can raise the vehicle by 40mm within 2 seconds and lower it by 50mm in less than 2 seconds.
Nio’s cutting-edge technology is showcased in another video shared by Wang Yufei, Head of the Chassis team, revealing innovative features that set their products apart from the competition. In a captivating viral video posted on Weibo, the Nio ET9 sedan showcases its impressive agility by expertly juggling a ball on its rooftop.
According to Wang’s feedback, the ET9’s SkyRide suspension boasts an impressive adjustment rate of its lively suspension, outperforming traditional air suspension by a significant margin – no less than 60 times faster.
Bai Jian, vice-chairman of hardware development at NIO, has confirmed that the NIO Telephone 2 is utilized to control the company’s Skyride chassis. The NIO ET2, a new electric vehicle from Chinese automaker NIO, is likely to make its global debut in early August at the Shanghai Auto Show.

ClearMotion, a US-based startup, provides the Skyride suspension technology to Nio. The Boston-based startup aims to significantly reduce the bumps and enhance the overall ride comfort, securing a substantial $39 million funding led by Nio Capital in September 2022. Porsche’s recent announcement revealed its decision to incorporate Clearmotion’s innovative suspension technology into its vehicles, bringing the iconic brand in line with industry trends.
ClearMotion secured a substantial order for 3 million units of suspension-related products from NIO, effectively eclipsing production volumes of 750,000 vehicles. This lack of representation fails to illustrate the ET9 production capacity effectively.
The Nio ET9 is poised to become the most expensive offering from the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, with a planned launch in early 2025. Unveiled during the NIO Day event in December 2023, the luxury vehicle started accepting pre-orders at a price of approximately $110,000 or 800,000 yuan.
