CSC ES5 launched as speedy seated electric scooter, taking shot at the major competition

CSC ES5 begins shipping as America’s latest 50+ MPH electric scooter option

Transfer over, electrical Vespa. Get nervous, NIU. A revolutionary seated electric scooter has taken to the streets, boasting unparalleled efficiency at an unbeatable price point. Meet the CSC ES5, a high-performance electric scooter that combines impressive power, speed, and features without breaking the bank.

Based in Southern California, CSC Bikes is no newcomer to the world of electric bicycles and scooters. Following a prolonged period of importing and selling gasoline-powered motorcycles, the company expanded its electric offerings once more in 2018, marking a significant shift in their product lineup.

Over the past five years, the CSC badge has adorned four distinct styles, seamlessly transitioning from urban commuting to highway driving.

The CSC ES5 has evolved into the fifth electric model offered by CSC, excluding their multiple e-bicycles.

The ES5 doesn’t replicate the Monterey’s laid-back vibe with its relaxed pace, nor does it emulate the RX1E’s high-speed thrills on the open road at 80 mph (130 km/h).

With a top speed of 52.8 miles per hour (85 kilometres per hour), this electric scooter possesses sufficient velocity to enable riders to traverse nearly all highways within the metropolitan area. While city highways might accommodate a 52-mph scooter, interstates are unlikely to provide an enjoyable experience for such a vehicle.

Designed for daily commutes and practicality, rather than leisurely drives, the CSC ES5’s city-friendly pace ensures a reliable companion for urban adventures. Notwithstanding its compact size, this e-bike is surprisingly lively, boasting a powerful 5 kW motor that’s centrally located and driven by a sturdy belt mechanism. That’s the continual energy, too. The installed height’s maximum power output is approximately 8 kilowatts.

The journey’s duration is prolonged due to the provision of three 60V and 31Ah lithium-ion batteries.

Riders can collectively enjoy 5.58 kWh of capability, with individual batteries designed to fit discreetly in a storage space for easy charging – perfect for condo dwellers and others without dedicated charging facilities.

CSC claims that the scooter’s top speed gradually increases to approximately 31 mph (50 km/h) over a distance of around 68 miles (110 km). While some may tout the claimed efficiency of a certain bike brand’s (CSC), it is crucial to note that actual performance can significantly deviate from these promised numbers when ridden in everyday scenarios. In a welcome respite from the typical corporate routine of touting impressive performance metrics quantified in isolation at 80 pounds, A rider going full tilt in a sleek, high-tech swimsuit that accentuates their toned physique.

If you’re consistently cruising at the scooter’s top speed of 53 mph, you likely won’t achieve the advertised range of 68 miles. While only a handful of cities span approximately 68 miles in circumference, you’ll generally have ample opportunity for variety and easily sustain yourself for several days’ worth of driving.

The CSC ES5 offers a competitive pricing strategy, boasting a pre-order value of $4,995 and MSRP of $5,295, excluding additional $410 in supplier fees, thereby making it relatively well-priced compared to its peers.

While a decent starting point, the closest comparable product to the NIU MQi Sport Pro Long Version might actually be the Xiaomi Mi M365 or the Segway Ninebot ES2. US$6,199 secures a remarkable performance package: a top speed of 43mph (70km/h), powered by a potent 3.1kW motor, and backed by a robust 4.03kWh battery capacity. For an additional 15% investment, the NIU promises a 20% reduction in speed, a 28% decrease in battery life, and a 38% decrease in overall power.

The Northern Illinois University (NIU) app offers impressive features, including GPS-like capabilities and an extensive supply chain network. Meanwhile, the CSC ES5 boldly challenges traditional market leaders with unparalleled value for money.

Prior to accounting for the ES5’s distinct configurations, comparable to keyless start, a full-color TFT display screen featuring a Bluetooth audio player and integrated dash cam capable of recording drives – either for archival purposes or legal reasons.

The design features ample seating for two riders, accompanied by practical pillion pegs and sturdy rear grab bars, catering to the needs of both the rider and their passenger, regardless of gender, and ensuring a secure and comfortable experience for all. I let my partner know that it’s more secure for them to carry me, both because it’s actually the case and because I find the sensation enjoyable.

Currently available in three distinct colour options, the CSC ES5 is now accepting pre-orders for its upcoming release, with a fully refundable $300 deposit required ahead of expected shipments commencing later this year.

Electrek’s Take

I’m thrilled to behold the most recent innovation in electrical engineering at CSC. The new scooter seems to boast a more imposing stature compared to the original CSC Wiz launched in 2019, while also featuring upgraded specifications.

At this price point, I’m thrilled with the combination of mid-motor and belt drive. While I’m not particularly fond of listening to music while driving, I’m sure many people would appreciate the convenience of a Bluetooth speaker in their vehicle.

At a price of roughly $5,500, the e-bike is substantially more expensive than a basic gas-powered scooter or moped. Notwithstanding its initial drawbacks, the electric scooter has ultimately yielded significant advantages over its gasoline-powered counterpart. While electrical scooters may initially seem like a more affordable option due to reduced fuel costs, their true cost-effectiveness lies in the significant long-term savings they provide through lower maintenance and repair expenses. By driving thousands of miles on a regular basis, maintenance of your vehicle often boils down to simple checks, such as monitoring tire pressure every few weeks. The smoother operation of an electric vehicle also yields benefits such as reduced vibrations, no warmth emanating from the engine, and the added advantage of minimizing one’s carbon footprint by producing zero tailpipe emissions. As we operate at this threshold, the distinction between the most detrimental components of these pollutants blurs – whether it’s the carcinogenic compounds you’re breathing in or the far-reaching climate impacts that future generations will inherit and struggle to mitigate.

Recently, I embarked on a trip aboard a charming Honda scooter, which prompted me to reminisce about the reasons behind my earlier transition to electric vehicles – the ownership experience and riding quality simply excel.

At this price point, I firmly believe that CSC has a highly attractive and competitive new bike in the works. While the RX1E may not offer the same level of enjoyment as other options, its lower price point and urban-oriented design make it a more attractive choice for city dwellers. For countless people, this electric scooter embodies the perfect blend of excitement and accessibility, poised to captivate even the most skeptical riders.
