In India, there’s a staggering disparity between two-wheeled transportation modes, with bikes and scooters overwhelmingly dominating the roads at a ratio of approximately 4:1 over four-wheeled vehicles. Therefore, it logically follows that initiatives to electrify transportation in the world’s most populous country must initially focus on electric motorcycles.

The Maharashtra state government and Gogoro announced at a press conference that they are set to enter into an “Extreme Mega Challenge” agreement to manufacture electric vehicles, advanced battery packs, and battery swap stations to deploy Gogoro’s battery-swapping infrastructure in the state starting late 2023.
In Maharashtra, extremely mega tasks are deemed crucial strategic initiatives valued at over US$500 million, typically warranting official incentives to ensure the successful execution of such projects. The Maharashtra state cabinet has approved Gogoro’s demand for financial incentives, paving the way for a swift completion of the deal with its partner.
Gogoro’s electric scooters and innovative battery-swapping ecosystem have been engineered to provide a seamless, hassle-free experience for riders, eliminating the need to recharge their vehicles.
Rather than embarking on a search for traditional charging infrastructure, riders simply roll up to a Gogoro GoStation, where they can efficiently exchange depleted batteries for freshly charged ones.
The method takes as little as six seconds to complete, allowing riders to quickly “recharge” and resume their journey.
The massive deal unveiled recently will surpass US$1.5 billion in investment, featuring financial incentives and support from Maharashtra, building on the momentum generated by their earlier Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) announcement.
