When a government department scores another success in providing information to the public. This time, we explore the features of the upcoming ONVO L60 SUV from NIO.

Pre-orders for the L60, a mass-market variant of Nio’s Onvo model, commenced in May, with an anticipated launch and delivery scheduled for September. Priced at 219,900 yuan (approximately $30,200), this automotive offers an innovative option: its battery is available for leasing through BaaS, allowing consumers to access it without a full purchase.

According to the Ministry of Trade and Information Expertise’s recent announcement, it appears that the L60 model will only be available with a reduced 60.6 kWh battery pack at launch. Initially, it was predicted that the electric vehicle would be offered with a 90 kWh battery pack, enabling a range of approximately 730 kilometers.

The Onvo L60’s 61 kWh battery pack enables a range of either 555 km or 525 km (depending on the source) when equipped with a single motor, according to CLTC standards. The estimated range for the dual-motor model varies between 525 and 501 kilometres. While the distinction in ranges may be attributed to the vastly dissimilar wheel sizes, it’s essential to note that the L60 is available with either 19- or 20-inch wheels.

According to information from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the standalone weight of the battery pack is reportedly 439 kilograms. The blades are powered by BYD’s FinDreams subsidiary, specifically offering their advanced lithium-iron-phosphate batteries. The L60 boasts an impressive fuel efficiency, with vitality consumption as low as 12.1 kilowatt-hours per 100 kilometres.

While the Model 3’s low power consumption is attributed to its drag coefficient of 0.229, a value significantly better than the Tesla Model Y’s 0.236? Raul Pires, a former lead designer at Bentley, was responsible for the design of the Onvo L60. The L60’s design cleverly incorporates innovative features akin to low-drag wheels and discreet door handles, blending form and function with aplomb.

The Onvo L60 features a design reminiscent of the Tesla Model Y. Notably, the Onvo features a singular central touchscreen, where all information is presented, differing from the Nio’s horizontal layout versus the vertical one found in this model. Instead of drive choice being made via a steering column-mounted stalk compared to a toggle on the center console with NIO vehicles.

The dimensions are approximately 4.83m x 1.93m x 1.62m, with a wheelbase of roughly 2.95m. The single-motor variants will employ a powerful 240 kW motor at the rear, while all-wheel-drive configurations will supplement this with an additional 100 kW motor located at the front axle. The Onvo L60 is set for production at Nio’s F2 facility in Hefei, the company’s second manufacturing plant.
