As the e-scooter market has surged in recent times, numerous models have flooded the scene, making it challenging for consumers to discern between them. Barcelona-based Silence has built a reputation for its high-performance electrical scooters, which feature the company’s signature roll-along detachable batteries, allowing for convenient and efficient recharging. The corporation is partnering with innovative research and production programs (IRP) to further enhance the performance of their scooters, driving greater efficiency and advancement in this sector.
Silence’s electrical scooters have previously been spotted in action, effortlessly gliding through the streets of Barcelona with ease.
The scooters are capable of reaching freeway speeds, suggesting they require substantial batteries to handle significant range at higher velocities? One of the primary challenges facing electrical scooter battery technology is the trade-off between energy density and portability, as riders often need to remove batteries from their scooters to recharge them indoors. In urban areas where many residents live without dedicated space for charging their vehicles, this reality poses significant challenges.
Typically, a detachable electrical scooter battery weighs around 12 kg (26 lbs), which restricts their capacity to approximately 1.5-2 kilowatt-hours. Despite its innovative design, Silence’s electric vehicle boasts an impressive battery pack with a capacity exceeding 5 kilowatt-hours. How do manufacturers create massive batteries while ensuring their detachment is still possible, a feat that seems paradoxical at first glance? By equipping luggage carts with wheels to enable effortless rolling without the need for manual lifting. The innovative design features a pioneering latch mechanism allowing the wheels to pivot downward, mimicking the action of an ambulance stretcher – this eliminates any need for the rider to physically lift or transport the battery’s weight.
Silence has taken its innovative momentum to the next level by forging a groundbreaking alliance with leading powertrain specialist IRP Systems, further elevating the performance of its vehicles.
Silence has recently introduced a groundbreaking partnership, as a result of which it will be integrating IRP’s innovative Dynamic 6 motor controllers into its entire range of scooters and vehicles, revolutionizing the way they perform on roads.
Eduardo Quesada, R&D Director in Silence, shared his ideas on the partnership:
“The collaboration with IRP Programs has been extremely productive and successful for more than three years.” Silence and IRP have collaborated to design a cutting-edge motor controller for our vehicles, meeting the highest standards of safety and quality. The tangible fruits of this fruitful partnership are showcased by the addition of these innovative controllers to our portfolio of 4-wheel vehicles.
The four-wheeled vehicles Quesada mentions appear to be the brand-new Silence S04, an electric quadricycle designed in the style of a microcar. The innovative design features a pair of offset seats, reminiscent of the iconic Citroën Ami, while harnessing the power of two Silence scooter batteries for efficient propulsion. The introduction of the first automobiles has recently been pioneered by Silence.
The versatility of the IRP’s motor controller is underscored by its potential to integrate seamlessly into an array of diverse platforms, showcasing the adaptability of the design.
IRP Programs CEO Moran Worth highlighted the company’s technological prowess and diversified range of electric vehicle offerings, powered by IRP’s expertise. Noting the new partnership, he emphasized that “IRP is proud to partner with Silence, Europe’s leading e-mobility provider.” “We are confident that our collective efforts will yield successful electric vehicle products, enabling Silence to solidify its market leadership.”
