The all-new electric Mini Cooper, a collaborative effort between BMW and Nice Wall Motor (GWM), officially launches on July 6 in China. Shoppers have five trim options to choose from, priced between $26,100 and $36,700, ranging from 189,800 to 266,800 yuan.
The brand-new Mini Cooper boasts a length of 3,858mm, width of 1,756mm, height of 1,458mm, and a wheelbase that stretches to 2,526mm – a notable 31mm increase from its predecessor’s dimensions.
The all-new automotive comes in five trims: Cooper E Huge Participant/Traditional, Cooper SE Artist/Racer, and the exclusive one-off Cooper SE 1/65 Restricted Version; paired with six bold body colours: Storm Grey, Polar Bear White, British Inexperienced, Benedict Yellow, Magic Blue, and Chili Pink.
As the fifth generation of the iconic Mini three-door model, the all-new electric Mini Cooper retains several fundamental design elements of its predecessor, including a compact, three-door, and four-seat configuration that embodies the classic Mini spirit. The newly released electric Mini Cooper, available in Traditional trim, features 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, while the Artist and Racer variants are equipped with larger 18-inch aluminum alloy rims.
Furthermore, the Mini Cooper SE Racing Edition comes standard with a JCW (John Cooper Works) treatment, elevating its performance capabilities and dynamic handling. The sleek black physique trim is elegantly complemented by a vibrant pink roof, striking pink exterior mirrors, and a bold JCW emblem. Simultaneously, both the Artist and Racer trim levels offer panoramic sunroofs.
Powered by a 135 kW (181 horsepower) electric motor and a 40.7 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack, the entry-level Mini Cooper E delivers a certified low-temperature cycle range of 456 kilometers, with a swift 0–100 km/h acceleration time of just 7.3 seconds. The high-performance Mini Cooper SE is equipped with a 160 kW (215 horsepower) electric motor and a 54.2-kilowatt-hour ternary lithium-ion battery pack, providing a certified range of 452 kilometers under the Chinese LA4 cycle and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds. The DC Quick Charging technology enables a rapid refill from 10% to 80%, taking just thirty minutes to complete.
The Traditional Version typically features a 240mm diameter circular central management display, driven by the Mini Working System 9, which enables a personal voice assistant, navigation, video gaming, and streaming media capabilities. Options include an array of amenities, such as ambient lighting, dual-zone automated air conditioning, wireless smartphone charging, heated steering wheel, parking assistance, and cruise control management.
The Artist Edition boasts adjustable electric seats, intelligent LED headlights that interact with the driver’s gaze, cabin-mounted cameras, heating for the front seats, and a soothing massage function for the driver’s seat, as well as power-folding and heating for the exterior mirrors, along with seamless keyless entry. The fundamental configuration of the Racer Version mirrors that of the Artist Version, with one notable distinction: the seats are upholstered in premium pink and black Vescin leather.
Below the central management display, a series of tactile controls await: bodily buttons and precision-engineered knobs that invite intuitive manipulation. The various modes of operation available for this system include core mode, which is the standard setting; go-kart mode, ideal for high-speed thrills; inexperienced mode, designed to conserve energy and reduce wear on components; stability mode, prioritizing steadiness over performance; timeless mode, evoking a sense of nostalgia; private mode, allowing users to customize their experience; and vivid mode, enhancing visual effects. Each mode features a designated user interface.
