Exquisite Bentley Batur Convertible harks back to the Coach-Built Era

As the automotive industry evolved from bespoke to mass-produced models, the allure of custom-built vehicles gradually faded. Notwithstanding the passage of time, contemporary luxury vehicles have enthusiastically adopted bespoke customization, with a growing prevalence of tailor-made cars emerging. While Bentley’s Continental GT is renowned for its sleek designs, the new convertible model elevates its status to an unparalleled benchmark of style and sophistication. Can also be crafted by Bentley’s esteemed in-house bespoke team.

The open-top two-seat configuration is actually a legacy feature at Bentley, dating back to their inaugural model in 1919. As you draw closer, the sharply defined lines take on a beauty that arises from the harmonious blend of the coupe’s assertive character and the softer, more alluring qualities of a convertible. The gleaming black grille, elegantly tapered lines, and bold facial expression harmonize seamlessly, while the soft-top roof exudes a sophisticated alignment with the vehicle’s unique character. The retractable roof can be seamlessly deployed or stowed in a remarkably quick time of just 19 seconds, allowing drivers to cruise at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour (50 kilometres per hour) while enjoying the flexibility and freedom that this innovative feature provides. In reality, with Mulliner, every aspect of a floor or design element can be tailored to personal preference through an unparalleled array of colour options and bespoke hand-painted graphics at one’s disposal.

Inside the cabin, a 3D-printed rose-gold trim adorns the Bentley Drive Mode Selector, which wraps around the start-stop button, enabling drivers to effortlessly switch between various chassis modes. Rosesque accents may adorn Bentley’s organ-stop controls within the dashboard, complemented by a subtle rose-gold insert on the steering wheel’s rim.

The Batur Convertible will be painstakingly handcrafted over several months within Mulliner’s bespoke workshop at Bentley’s carbon-neutral facility in Crewe, England, with a mere 16 examples produced, marking the end of an era for Bentleys powered by the iconic W12 engine.

The W12 powertrain shared by the Batur Convertible and its coupe equivalent has undergone significant enhancements to boost performance, with a revised consumption system, upgraded turbochargers, new intercoolers, and a meticulous recalibration process yielding an impressive 750 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque. The W12 engine is coupled with Bentley’s advanced eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, complemented by a sporty exhaust system featuring sleek titanium end-pieces precision-crafted through 3D printing technology.
