Volkswagen officially unveiled its new electric compact coupe SUV, the ID. UNYX, on June 28, with a predicted launch date of mid-July in China. IDUNYX’s Chinese brand name, Yu Zhong, translates to “with the masses,” denoting its status as the first fully electric vehicle produced by Volkswagen Anhui.
At the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, the Volkswagen ID.UNYX premiered earlier this year.
Measuring 4,663mm in length, 1,860mm in width, and 1,610mm in height, the Volkswagen ID.UNYX boasts a spacious 2,766mm wheelbase, perfectly encapsulating its compact SUV persona.
Volkswagen has unveiled its all-new ID.UX series of sensible electric vehicles, embodying the mantra “Make Every Moment Golden”, with the ID.UNYX serving as the inaugural model in this innovative lineup. Once a benchmark has been set, future models are likely to surpass the gold standard of the Volkswagen brand. By 2027, Volkswagen aims to unveil five practical pure-electric vehicles under its e-model series.
The Volkswagen ID.4 has secured a gross sales licence from China’s regulatory body since March of this year. Two powertrain options will be available in both single-motor and dual-motor configurations. While the utmost energy of the single electric motor trim is a constant 170 kilowatts, the twin motor trim boasts a combined maximum energy output of 80 kilowatts from its front motor and 170 kilowatts from its rear motor.
The electric automobile is equipped with 82.4 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery packs provided by Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited (CATL), boasting a cruising range of up to 621 kilometers and an estimated 565 kilometers when fully charged.
The exterior design of this vehicle features a sleek, fastback-inspired coupe styling for its SUV body type, accompanied by subtly integrated door handles that add to its overall aerodynamic appearance.
The rear features a layered aesthetic, seamlessly integrating the rear spoiler, LED taillights, and upper brake lights into a cohesive design. As night falls, the iconic Volkswagen logo situated at the heart of the design will be beautifully illuminated. The high-performance automobile features a sleek design and runs smoothly on 21-inch alloy rims.
About Volkswagen Anhui
Volkswagen Anhui was founded in 2017 as the company’s inaugural powertrain-focused joint venture in China, and its third automotive joint venture overall in the country. Volkswagen and Anhui Jianghuai Car Group, or JAC, collaborated on a 50-50 joint venture to produce vehicles below the SOL model. Following its assumption of control, Volkswagen currently holds a 75% stake in the joint venture. JAC then reworked the SOLO’s architecture to create Sehol, a platform exclusively dedicated to producing JAC-branded vehicles.
