Pure Cafe: Ducati Scrambler CR24I Concept

Throughout the past 14 years, Ducati has also offered various Scrambler model iterations to customers. Here are the improved text: These models feature motorcycles with varying engine capacities, including the “entry-level” Sixty2 Scrambler and larger, high-performance 1100cc variants.

In conjunction with desert-inspired fashion trends, Harley-Davidson introduced the Desert Sled and Desert X concept models, which eventually evolved into a standalone model outside of the Scrambler family.

The Scrambler range gained a new addition with the enigmatic Cafe Racer variant, whose name might be perplexing to some. Debuting in 2017 with a striking black and gold color scheme reminiscent of John Deere’s signature style, the model underwent a sleek transformation to a blue and silver aesthetic in 2019. Regrettably, Ducati ceased production in 2020, leaving its iconic retro range without a restaurant-style racing bike. But this might soon change.

At this year’s 2024 Bike Shed Moto Present in London, Ducati unveiled two innovative Scrambler-inspired concepts over the weekend.

Two new models have been introduced: the pared-back bare RR24I, whose sleek design draws inspiration from the dystopian landscapes often depicted in post-apocalyptic cinema; and the CR24I, which heralds the return of a restaurant-themed mannequin to the Scrambler family.

While the resemblance may be difficult to discern, the CR24I is reportedly a direct evolution of the earlier Scrambler Cafe Racer model. In a deliberate nod to Ducati, the CR24I concept was crafted with unadulterated cafe racer flair, its sleek lines paying homage to the iconic British motorcycles of the 1960s where enthusiasts would dare each other to complete a lap around the block in the time it took to finish a song on the jukebox. As potentially crass as it might seem, we’re willing to take the chance and let our guard down.

If the Scrambler brand does indeed venture into manufacturing, the CR24I would become the inaugural faired mannequin to don the iconic Scrambler moniker? Fortunately, this isn’t just a few cosmetic tweaks slapped onto an inventory Scrambler – its aggressive styling is a deliberate design choice that reflects its performance capabilities. Ducati’s latest creation pays homage to its iconic past with an entirely new bodywork design inspired by the classic Pantah and 750 SS models. Sporting angular lines, the neo-retro fairings form a singular building with the gas tank at its core. The tank’s perimeter features openings that enable direct airflow through channels, functioning similarly to a ram-air system designed to supply the engine with necessary air intake.

The balance of the CR24I’s bodywork comprises distinct facet panels and a generously proportioned seat capable of accommodating a single occupant. The sleek, detachable biposto-inspired wasp-tail cowl, unadorned and unencumbered, takes center stage at the rear of this vehicle. The sleek design allows for a secure hold on the license plate and rear flip indicators, courtesy of a cleverly engineered wheel hugger.

The CR24I receives a dose of cafe racer flair through design elements such as clip-on handlebars, sleek bar-finish mirrors, repositioned foot controls, and harmonious 17-inch forged wheels that share a common diameter. To provide a definitive conclusion, the latest Scrambler TFT sprint has been repositioned to reside comfortably below the windscreen.

The Ducati Scrambler cafe racer’s colour scheme is a nostalgic nod to its heritage, with a sleek black finish complemented by subtle gold accents. Despite being overshadowed by the golden hue, crimson pinstripes and white accents expertly punctuate the design, injecting a sense of vitality and visual interest.

The CR24i will seamlessly integrate all the latest Scrambler software updates without any issues. The new motorcycles are equipped with the innovative Desmodue engine, featuring a refined and more compact clutch design for enhanced performance. Here is the rewritten text:

“The bike now features a cutting-edge ride-by-wire throttle, enhanced traction management capabilities, state-of-the-art anti-lock braking system (ABS) technologies, a comprehensive suite of LED lighting options, distinct trip modes for customizable riding experiences, and an optional fast shifter for riders seeking to optimize their performance.” This innovative travel solution is now offered in a compact package, weighing in at an impressive 4kg less than its predecessors, ensuring a more enjoyable journey from start to finish.

Let’s not overcomplicate things, after all. While unconventional ideas may not normally be considered for production, in the absence of options within the current Scrambler range, introducing a model like this could potentially attract fresh customers to the Scrambler lifestyle?
